Military Travel & Choosing the Right Plan

Why should military travelers use an eSIM while overseas?

Reliable mobile data helps military members and families stay connected during PCS moves, deployments, TDYs, leave travel, and international trips. Having mobile data access can help with navigation, rideshare apps, translation apps, messaging, travel updates, hotel access, and staying in contact when local Wi-Fi is unreliable.

Public Wi-Fi can be inconsistent, slow, unsecured, or unavailable when you need it most. Mobile data provides more reliable access for maps, communication apps, transportation, and travel coordination while moving between airports, bases, hotels, and cities.

Common uses include:
- Google Maps and Apple Maps
- WhatsApp and Signal FaceTime and Messenger calls
- Email and banking apps
- Translation apps Ride-share services
- Travel reservations and airline apps
- Streaming music or video

A 10GB plan is usually enough for lighter travel use such as navigation, messaging, email, and occasional social media.
A 20GB plan may be better for longer stays, PCS transitions, video calls, streaming, hotspot use, or heavy daily usage.

15-day plans work well for shorter TDYs, vacations, or temporary trips.
30-day plans are often better for PCS moves, deployments, extended travel, or longer international stays.

Many travelers use more mobile data than expected because they rely more heavily on navigation, messaging apps, travel apps, and hotspot usage while abroad. Downloading maps and using Wi-Fi when available can help conserve data.

General eSIM Questions

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a digital SIM card built into your phone that allows you to activate mobile service without inserting a physical SIM card.

eSIMs are installed digitally using a QR code or activation process instead of a removable plastic SIM card.

Most modern phones support Dual SIM functionality, allowing you to keep your normal number active while using an eSIM for travel data.

Travel & Usage

Most plans support hotspot functionality, though speeds and availability may vary by carrier and destination.

MilRoam plans are designed for military travel, PCS moves, TDYs, deployments, and international travel.

You may lose mobile data access until purchasing another plan or top-up if available.

Some plans support regional coverage across multiple countries. Always review the supported coverage information before purchase.

In most cases, your eSIM will connect automatically once your device reaches a supported network coverage area.

Many eSIMs can only be installed once. We recommend not deleting your eSIM unless instructed during troubleshooting.
